Viburnum, Shasta #3
Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum 'Shasta' (Doublefile Viburnum)
Japanese snowball 'Shasta', Doublefile Viburnum 'Shasta', Double File Viburnum 'Shasta', Japanese Snowball Bush 'Shasta'
Beautiful throughout the year, Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum The dense, multiple-stemmed, deciduous shrub known as "Shasta" (Doublefile Viburnum) is unrivaled in terms of flowering. It is nearly totally covered in flat-topped, lacecap-like clusters of snow-white flowers in late spring and in the middle of the summer, they give way to a profusion of egg-shaped, bright red fruits that mature to black and serve as a summertime meal for birds. Fall sees the heavily veined, dark green foliage change from burgundy to purplish crimson. 'Shasta' is a wonderful addition to tiny gardens due to its compact habit.
