Grown primarily for its glossy burgundy rosette leaves that shift to deep purple in summer and red in autumn, this native option is a great substitute for non-native Ajuga. Blue flowers appear in late spring and early summer, drawing pollinators despite sometimes lacking petals. Thriving in sun to part shade, these plants can self-seed to create an 18" tall, 12" spread ground cover.
