Liriope muscari 'Variegata' (Variegated Lily Turf), an evergreen tuberous perennial with slender, arching, green leaves with creamy white stripes, is mostly cultivated for its lovely foliage. Erect spikes of tiny violet flowers that are densely grouped and bloom for weeks in late summer and fall can be seen above the foliage. Their Latin name, Muscari, comes from their resemblance to grape hyacinth. Lily Turf is a popular, attractive plant that is hardy and compact. It looks especially good when it is planted beside rivers that have undulations in them. You can also use liriope muscari in place of lawn grass.
