Rich, medium-moisture, well-drained soils with some shade are best for growing plants. Only when cultivated on consistently moist soils will it tolerate full sun. Old wood develops a bloom. After flowering, prune by pruning flowering stems to a pair of sound buds. In the early spring, remove weak or winter-damaged stems.
