Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red' (Winterberry)
Winterberry 'Winter Red', Black Alder 'Winter Red', Feverbark 'Winter Red', Swamp Winterberry 'Winter Red'

Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red' is regarded as one of the best winterberries because of its abundant fruit set and endurance. This multi-stemmed, slow-growing winterberry holly has an oval shape and numerous little greenish-white flowers that bloom in late spring or early summer. From fall through January, they are followed by an abundance of gorgeous cherry-red berries. They brighten the winter landscape and frequently last into the first few weeks of spring unless devoured by birds. They are very lovely. There is no discernible fall color on the glossy, leathery, dark green foliage. The female plant "Winter Red" requires a male pollinator in order to produce lovely, vivid red berries.
