Aureola Golden Variegated Hakone Grass
Hakonechloa macra
One of the few ornamental grass species that can grow in some shade. This Japanese forest grass has long, tapering leaves with bright yellow blades that are edged with lime green. The slightest breeze causes the leaves to sway gently, yet the flowing arch also conveys a sense of motion. Use in a container, a rock garden, or as a decorative ground cover in soil that is slightly acidic, evenly moist, and partially shaded. The blossoms are barely noticeable.
