Simple to grow in full sun to partial shade, well-drained soils with a medium moisture content. capable of surviving in a wide range of soil types, from sand to clay and from moist to dry. prefers well-drained, light, wet, acidic soils. Established plants may withstand drought to some extent. USDA Zones 8 to 9 in the deep South see summers that are extremely hot and humid. Due to the fact that plants are dioecious (male and female blooms are found on different plants), it is necessary to have both male and female plants for the female plant to be pollinated and bear fruit.
