Hibiscus 'Lord Baltimore' (Rose Mallow), a show-stopping shrubby herbaceous perennial with robust growth, is known for its extra-large, striking crimson blossoms that can grow up to 10 inches wide. Each satiny flower has a large central staminal column, ruffled, slightly overlapping petals, and other decorations. Each dinner plate flower lasts one day and blooms continually from mid-summer to early fall, but until the end of the blooming season, fresh flowers open each day in quick succession. They are carried on thick, upright, reddish-brown stalks that are practically woody at the base. Typically, they don't require staking. The deeply lobed, medium-green leaves of the foliage contrast pleasantly with the gorgeous blooms. Perfect as an airy screen or hedge at the back of a perennial border.
